I have always admired the teachers' unions for their success in hoodwinking the American public into believing that throwing more money at schools will improve education results. (Most of the extra money goes to teachers' compensation, a fact that the unions cleverly bury.) The statistics show again and again that educational quality doesn't improve with increased funding. The latest example was pointed out by Jason Riley in this morning's WSJ. While per pupil spending rose nationally by an inflation adjusted 18% between 2000 and 2015, it fell in cash strapped Arizona. Yet on 2015 federal standardized exams, Arizona made more progress than any other state.
To prevent any serious consideration of the realities of school funding, the teachers' unions fall back on a tried and true tactic: attacking the messenger, in this case that evil Betsy DeVos.
